Twists

Every good Thriller film has a twist which the audience simply doesn’t expect; Law Abiding Citizen is a 2009 crime thriller in which Gerard Butler kills people from inside solitary in prison, through out the narrative the audience are led to believe that he has an accomplice on the outside but at the end it is revealed that he actually was able to leave his solitary cell.

This is an example of a perfectly executed twist, however if a twist is not properly registered with the audience the film can be a total flop. The main challenge concerned with integrating a twist into our plot is that if it is too predictable it will ruin our plot.

A twist is defined as an unexpected change in the direction of the plot which intrigues the audience, for us to do this properly we are going to use a ‘red herring’ which basically means that we are going to divert and misdirect the audience from a significant part in our narrative.
